Types

  • Macule: flat, can be seen not felt
  • Papule: superficial, raised, no pus <1cm
  • Vesicle: clear fluid filled (blister) <1cm
  • Pustule: pus filled blister
  • Bullae: large fluid filled
  • Nodule: raised, firm >1cm
  • Purpura: doesn’t blanch with pressure (remember the test for Meningitis, pushing a glass on the rash and it not disappearing)
  • Petechiae: small superficial purpura, may be palpable
  • Telangiectasia: small dilated blood vessels near the surface, commonly in mucous membranes
