- Used on Gram-negative bacteria
- Cannot be given orally as it is not absorbed by the intestines
Types & Bacteria
- Gentamicin: Pseudomonas, Proteus and some Staphylococcus. Used as a prophylactic in orthopaedic operations because its heat-resistance means it's still effective, even when high heats are required to set cement.
Problems
Ototoxicitiy which is a clever way of saying that they can send you deaf. Which is rubbish. Can also knacker your kidneys.
