Large intestine

The large intestine is the end of the digestive tract. In it, liquid chyme has the water removed, forming the semi-solid faeces, which are passed out of the body at the anus.

The large intestine consists of

• the caecum (where the appendix also attaches)
• the ascending, transverse and descending colon
• and the rectum and anus
