Pregnancy lasts 38 weeks from the point of conception. However it is commonly measured from the date of the last period of menstruation.
Implantation
The blastocyst imbeds in the wall of the uterus where it begins to grow.
- The trophoblastic layer becomes the chorion, which eventually forms the foetal part of the placenta. It begins to release human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG), which keeps the corpus luteum alive, in order for it to keep secreting oestrogen and progesterone.
- The inner cell mass grows to becomes the foetus. It's very exciting.
